Folks calling about MagnaTrack motorized screens are most often looking to solve outdoor living issues with oppressive heat, chilling cold, wind that brings dust or fire season ashes, rain, snow, et cetera. They have tried unsuccessfully to buy screens in hardware or big box stores, and some have even used tarps out of necessity. By the time they come to us, they are frustrated and looking for a permanent solution. They come with questions. Here are some of them with their answers!
“Can I put screens on my existing covered patio/deck?”
Absolutely! MagnaTrack screens are designed for that exact purpose. Install one or enclose your whole patio, to create four seasons of comfort.
“Do the screens only come with the StruXure pergola?”
Short answer, no. MagnaTrack screens are manufactured by Progressive Screens. The screens are awesome for the pergola systems, but they’re just as terrific for existing covered patios, wood pergolas, porches, and other enclosable areas.
“Do the screens have to be motorized? Do they have roll-up shades?”
Yes, they must be motorized. There is no manual operation, no roll-up shades.
“Do these screens block the wind?”
They sure do. The screen material indicates the level of protection. For instance, the solar screens block 80-100% of the wind and UV rays. The vinyl screens block the wind completely.
“How much wind can the screens handle?”
The screens can handle up to 75mph wind gusts. (The hurricane screens can handle up to 155mph winds!)
“What are the standard sizes for the screens?”
MagnaTrack manufactures screens from 3’ to 30’ wide and 3’ to 24’ tall, (limitations apply) accommodating many openings.
“Can I get the hood and tracks in custom colors?”
Yes. Custom colors will extend delivery time and there is an additional charge.
“I want to keep bugs out. How can we screen the gable or the small spaces?”
No problem. We can order extra screen material and create fixed screens for those areas.
“Do the screens really hold the heat in during the winter?”
YES. In fact, clients in Junction City called to report that they invited friends over to sit in their screened outdoor living space we built for them. This was during a heavy storm, temperatures were in the low 40s. They have a 199-½’ outdoor living space and two mushroom style heaters. Both couples were outfitted properly, including coats. Both heaters were going. At one point, they lifted the screens about 6” to let in some air. Then they turned off one heater. Then they took off their coats and continued to enjoy the screened pergola with ONE HEATER!
“How do I clean my screens?”
- Systems with screen material only: Clean screen as needed using a soft cloth, soap & water. Pressure cleaning is approved but NEVER spray water directly up into the hood. This could cause damage to the motor.
- Systems with clear/tinted vinyl windows: To clean the screen, use the same methods as above. If the unit has vinyl window inserts, they must be cleaned with a marine grade clear vinyl cleaner. These can be purchased at any marine supply store, online or from McKenzie Outdoor Living (via manufacturer). In addition to the marine vinyl cleaner, use a microfiber towel to clean, remove haze, and polish.
- ***Never use any glass cleaners or ammonia products! This will turn the vinyl hazy and create a milky film.***
