StruXure Pergolas: Common Questions

When we receive calls about StruXure pergolas, the first question is often about pricing. After that, questions range from functionality to style to any number of things. Below are some of the most asked questions.

“How much does a StruXure pergola cost?”

Most of our residential installations cost between $30,000 and $60,000 depending upon size and complexity.

“What sizes does the StruXure pergola come in?”

Each pergola is custom-built for its homeowner. There are no pre-set sizes.

“Can I buy the kit and build it myself?”

No. The StruXure pergola is not a kit. Each pergola is built specifically for its homeowner and must be installed by factory-trained installers.

“Why is it so expensive; isn’t it just an aluminum patio cover?”

The StruXure pergola is not just a patio cover. It is an investment in your home, manufactured to order, made of extruded, aircraft-grade 6063 aluminum, finished with architectural grade powder coating.

“What if it rains when the louvers are open?”

The rain sensor installed with the system automatically closes the louvers when the first drop or two of rain hits it. You can open the louvers and just go about your day, knowing the sensor will keep an eye on the weather.

“Can I add motorized screens to it later?”

Yes, if we wire for the screens during the pergola installation.

“Can I add heaters, a tv, or other accessories later?”

Yes, and we need to wire for any additional accessories during the pergola installation.

“Is it waterproof?”

A StruXure pergola is an outdoor product, not a sealed indoor room in your home. When closed, the patented louver design interlocks, providing a solid shelter from rain. Water is pitched into the system’s 360° integrated gutter. However, during heavy rainstorms, sideways rain can enter the system. By adding screens or other enclosure, more rain or snow is blocked.

Does the pergola have to be motorized?”

No. There is a manual operator option. The manual operator is manufactured in white only and is detachable.

I am a visual person; can I get a mock-up so I can see what my project would look like?”

Yes, we can order a rendering on your behalf. A rendering is essentially a doctored photo that shows your home and the pergola design we create with you.  Here is an example.

“I don’t like remotes; what other options for controls are there?”

There are wall switches and your StruXure pergola can be connected to a home automation system. Optional MyLink™ enables you to integrate with most home automation systems, including Creston, Control 4, Savant, Elan, RTI, URC, Brilliant Tech and more.

“Can I set the louvers and screens to open and close on a schedule?”

Yes. You’ll be able to do that with home automation.

“How reliable are the motors?”

The motors are quite reliable and have a 5-year warranty. The motors are also quite easy to replace, should that be necessary.
